New Horizons South Florida to Offer a Virtual AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Scholarship Program for High School Students Seeking a Career in IT

PLANTATION, FLORIDA – For more than 15 years, New Horizons South Florida has offered in-demand technology training at no cost to high school students as part of its annual summer scholarship. This year, New Horizons will collaborate with Amazon Web Services to offer the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Scholarship Program to eligible seniors currently attending high school in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. New Horizons of South Florida is an AWS Training Partner and provides AWS cloud training through its AWS Authorized Instructors and official AWS curriculum.

New Horizons South Florida, a leading IT educator for individuals and corporations announced its annual, one-week long summer program for twelfth graders. New this year, the training will feature: ·

Over the course of one-week, students in the program have an opportunity to kickstart their IT career, learn the fundamentals of cloud technology, and earn a certification voucher allowing them to sit for the AWS Cloud practitioner exam at no cost to them.

“We’re excited to collaborate with AWS to offer this scholarship opportunity to South Florida high school students. There is a growing demand for skilled IT talent and this program is instrumental in identifying and developing the next-generation of IT professionals,” said Charlene Pou, Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and Engagement for New Horizons South Florida.

The AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Training offers a sneak peek to New Horizons’ 9- and 18-week technology certification training programs, which includes topics like infrastructure, networking, and cybersecurity. Upon completion, students earn a certification voucher allowing them to sit for the AWS Cloud practitioner certification exam and taking that first step toward as they prepare for a career in IT.

The demand for cloud talent is growing rapidly on a global level. As stated in a report by 451 Research, cloud skills gaps have nearly doubled in the past three years, with 90% of

organizations reporting skills gaps in one or more cloud disciplines today. According to EMSI, through April of 2022, Florida had nearly 65,000 unique postings for cloud job vacancies.

This program begins on Monday, June 13, 2022, and runs from 9 am to 3 pm everyday through Friday June 17, 2022. To qualify, students must be high school seniors currently attending a Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach County school, and have a laptop, and an internet connection. Seats are limited.
